Music Mentoring Program The Community Counseling Center’s Music Mentoring Program is designed to give children from low-income families the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to play a musical instrument. Through this program, children who are interested in learning how to play a wind instrument or a percussion instrument, but are unable to afford the cost of private music lessons, are matched with members of a local nonprofit community band (Shoreview Northern Lights Variety Band). Mentors are asked to make a one-year commitment to their assigned child. The Music Mentoring Program targets children ages nine to eleven who attend or reside in the White Bear Lake Area or Mahtomedi School Districts. The program is also open to children who attend or reside in one of the suburban Ramsey County school districts. It is designed for children who could benefit from the support of an additional adult role model in their lives and for those who could not otherwise afford musical instruction. Through a partnership with Schmitt Music, children in the program are provided with an instrument, free of charge, for as long as they participate in the program. The program is in need of children who have a musical interest and might qualify for the program. If you have questions about the program, please call the Community Counseling Center at (651) 429-8544. |
