New and Exciting Things

are Happening in White Bear Lake!!!

In recent years Twin City area residents have increased the amount of refuse they have tossed out while the amount of material set aside for recycling has decreased.  Metropolitan area cities have been asked to help improve this situation.  In response to this concern the White Bear Lake Solid Waste Advisory Commission has spent the past several months studying alternatives and preparing recommendations.

Recently, the City Council approved two significant recommendations of the Advisory Commission which are intended to increase recycling by making it easier and reduce the volume of refuse generated in White Bear Lake by providing financial incentives through price differentials. These changes will occur during your next billing cycle.  Please take a moment to become familiar with these changes and consider reducing your refuse collection costs by recycling more.

First Change – Recycling is now easier

Our Service is changing from a “source-separated” recycling system

to a “two-sort” recycling system

OLD SYSTEM

Separate recyclables into many categories:

·              Glass

·              Plastic

·              Metal Cans

·              Mixed Paper

Corrugated Cardboard

NEW SYSTEM

Separate recyclables into two categories:

  • Rigids -

o       Glass – All Colors

o       Plastic – With neck &  #1 & #2

o       Metal Cans

  • Fibers -

o       Newsprint

o       Mixed Paper & Boxboard

Corrugated Cardboard

Under the new system, please place all Rigids directly into the recycling bin.  Then place all Fibers into a paper bag and set it on top of or along side of the blue recycling bin
