Vote Before Election Day

In Minnesota, you can vote early with an absentee ballot starting 46 days before Election Day, either by mail or in person.  Visit Ramsey County Elections for latest election information.

Did you know?

Early voting is technically absentee voting, and in Minnesota no excuse is needed for an absentee ballot.  The following steps are involved in the Early Voting (absentee) process:

  1. A voter completes the application to request an absentee ballot.  This may be done online, or by paper application through the mail (see resources linked below), or at a designated early voting location.
  2. Once the application for an absentee ballot is received and processed through the Ramsey County Elections Office, the correct ballot is assigned to the voter and mailed back to them, or given to them at the early voting location.
  3. Carefully follow instructions to complete the ballot that was mailed and place it in the mail, or bring it to a ballot collection site before Election Day, or drop it off at the Ramsey County Elections Building - 90 Plato Blvd West, St. Paul up until 3:00 p.m. on Election Day for processing.

If you do not return your assigned absentee ballot and show up to vote without the ballot that was mailed to you, the Election Judge will spoil (cancel) your mailed ballot and issue you a new ballot.
