COPPS - Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving

COPPS is a cooperative effort between the police and community that identifies problems of crime and disorder and involves the entire community in search for solutions to these problems.  It is founded on close, mutually beneficial ties between police and community members.  COPPS seeks the input and talents of all members of the community in the effort to safeguard our neighborhoods.  It offers a way for the department to help strengthen the community to reduce crime, disorder and quality of life concerns.  Developing a strong, self-sufficient community is an essential step in creating a place in which crime will not flourish.

COPPS in White Bear Lake and Gem Lake
To better serve the residents of White Bear Lake and Gem Lake, the cities have been divided into 4 quadrants.  Each quadrant is assigned to a sergeant and then further divided into neighborhoods, each of which has been assigned to an officer as his or her area.  Officers still work normal shifts and patrol all areas of White Bear Lake and Gem Lake, but these COPPS areas are intended to be long-term so officers can build relationships with community and business members.  We encourage our community to reach out to their area officer for general questions and crime prevention assistance.  Officers will assist in their assigned areas during community events such as Night to Unite.  Community members should still call 911 or non-emergency dispatch 651-429-8511 for an emergency or if a response is needed from an on-duty officer.

Please see the attachment for a map of the COPPS areas and assigned staff.  Additional information can be found in the Contact Us link of our website.
